Cruise 2012
We were fortunate enough to have the vacation of a lifetime this year cruising to the Eastern Caribbean via Royal Caribbean's Oasis of the Seas....the largest passenger ship in the world. This ship is unbelievable and has things to do on it that even just 10 years ago, would've be considered "too outrageous" to be considered. I will go as far as saying that if you were "bored" on this cruise at ANY time, it's because you were "dead". ;-). There's something for everyone, in every age group.
The ports were the usual St. Thomas, St. Marrten and Nassau.....but if you've ever been to any of these, you know that you can't be bored there and if anything, you could just sit on the ship and take in the scenery and unbelievably clear ocean water and the most beautiful beaches!
Activities on the ship were the usual, but in larger groups which to some.....was a deterrant, but fun none the less. From Bingo (which on the last day at sea yielded a whopping $7000.00 to the winner!) to the casino. If you're a gambler....you're in heaven. I found the casino over-crowded only on the last night before returning.
The Royal Promenade was crazy. When walking through, or stopping for a bite to eat inbetween meals, it was sometimes hard to believe that we were on a "Cruise Ship".
As par for Royal Caribbean, the service was exceptional from the Stateroom Attendants to the Dining and Restaurant Crewmembers. They did, at times, show that the shear number of people on this ship could be overwhelming to the crew. Having been on over 14 cruises almost as many years (all of them on RCCL), it was apparent that service was not proportionate to size, not to say they didn't try.
In the classic Siskel-Ebert style of rating something......we're still giving Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines 10 thumbs up with one caveat. If you're handicapped, keep in mind that this ship is nearly a quarter-mile long. Going from dinner to a show was a good walk and in fact, I was not able to take in everything that was on this ship in one week! Perhaps.....their intent? ;-)
