IAFF Awards Presentation from Elgin Firefighter's Local 439

Tonight was the night I was presented the International Association of FireFighters Media Awards from the Elgin Firefighter's Local 439. It was a pretty a good night and made better when when I got an unexpected standing ovation for the work on Elginet. As if the recognition wasn't enough, I was also presented with a check for $400.00 from the Local!

Thank you FireFighters! As much as I hate to be in the limelight, it was a great night especially since my whole family was able to attend!

This was the First Prize Photo "For Best Fire Service Photo Published on a Web-based News Site". There was a Porsche Cayenne floating down the Fox River called in by some fisherman up-stream. The scramble was on to get inside it and see if anyone was IN the vehicle. This photo was taken moments after the divers were able to get into the SUV only to find it empty (which was a good thing!). The SUV was stolen out of Chicago earlier in the day and someone drove it out here, and right into the river.

This photo received an Honorable Mention for "Photo Published in Newspaper or Magazine (circulation over 100,000)". This was published on the front page of the Daily Herald newspaper in May of 2008. This photo is of Elgin FD Lt. John Fahy holding a 3 year old that was ejected from an SUV when it crashed on I-90 at Rt. 31, rolling several times before coming to a stop. The little girl's 2 year old brother and her Grandmother died from their injuries the next day. They too, were thrown from the SUV. The driver and passenger from that accident fled the scene and were never found.
