Wauconda Fire 4-Alarm Sept. 7, 2010
In what started out as just a barn fire in rural Wauconda, turned into a major challenging blaze because of high winds. The Wauconda Fire Protection District had to call on MABAS (Mutual Aid Box Alarm System) divisions as far away as East Dundee to help assist in keeping water at the scene.
The Oak Knoll farm located on Route 12 near Case Rd., was no where near a water source, and there were no hydrants in the area. Departments had to utilize 3-1500 gallon pools set up on Rt. 12, for fire engines to draw water from. It was certainly a test of ability and organization and had the winds not been so bad that day, this fire would most likely had been extinguished a lot easier.
