Pingree Grove - Elgin Live Burn Exercise Sept. 20, 2008
Pingree Grove and Elgin Fire Departments did a joint exercise this afternoon in unincorporated Kane County. An abandoned home was used to train firefighters in various stages of a fire, from small contained fire to something a little larger. ;-)
Aside from Fire Department personnel, Elgin Police also sent several of their people so they could see what Firefighters would be describing when arriving on a scene of a fire, from "light smoke showing" to "a fully engulfed residential fire".
At the later stages of the exercise, everyone had to move across the street because of the intensity of the fire. Standing anywhere in the driveway of this home had to be enduring temps of 120° plus.
