Hampshire Fire Department - Prom Sim at HHS - May 3, 2012
A ritual in many school districts, Hampshire High School in coordination with Hampshire and Pingree Grove Fire Departments and Hampsire Police Department simulated a post-prom crash involving drinking and driving after Prom. The simulation involves a carload of kids and an innocent mother and child who are hit in a head-on collision with the high school students. What evolves is an eerie scene of people ejected from their vehicles because they didn't have their seat-belts on, and a mother screaming because her child was injured in the crash.
It's unfortunate that this scene takes place in real life every year after someone's Prom. Today.....while some kids joked, many of them stood silent because of the possibility of it happening to someone you knew.
A job well done by Hampshire and Pingree Grove Police & Fire Departments as well as by the students who assisted by being the victims, complete with realistic make-up resembling a scene out of a horror movie. One girl had to lie lifeless on the hood of the car for the duration of the simulation as everything went on around her. She was the casualty, pronounced dead at the scene and was placed in a black body-bag and removed from the scene by the Kane County Coroner's Office.
