According to the Daily Herald story, Myron Ball, a homeless man drinking on the bike path at the end of Lessenden Ct. was getting a citation by an Elgin police officer when he resisted giving the officer his name and information for the citation. The officer attempted to arrest Ball, but in the attempt to handcuff him, the officer had to pepper-spray him after he elbowed the police officer in the face then ran into the Fox River.
Elgin and South Elgin firefighters immediately put their dive boats into the water to help police capture Ball. He reportedly grabbed the side of the South Elgin Fire boat and walked himself to the shoreline with their help where he was then cuffed and taken to waiting ambulance.
