2 workers from company contracted by the State of Illinois, died this afternoon while painting the underside of the Rt. 20 bridge. They apparently hit some live power lines which ignited the bucket on the lift they were in.
The MABAS Division 2 Technical Rescue Team got their first official call in this incident. Firefighters in the team are made up from surrounding communities including Elgin and the TRT truck is housed at Elgin Fire Department's Station #2. Team members worked together to remove the charred remains of the workers.
