Snow Days Chicago : Artists brought their talents to Chicago this year to turn a block of snow into something that I wish I had the ability to do. Access was poor, even though it was right at Balbo and Michigan. You had to utilize the most expensive parking facilities in the nation in order to see this exibit. There were NO provisions whatsoever for handicapped parking near the event which really leads one to wonder what the city could do in that area if the Olympics were brought here in 2016.
As someone with a severe leg injury, having to walk blocks to get to this event was almost not worth it.

We then went to Museum campus to take a few shots of downtown from near the Adler Planetarium and after pulling over for about 60 seconds, had a squad car behind me honking his horn for me to move parking lot several hundred yards away. I didn't bother because to park a block away, and walk with camera back and tripod was a too limiting for me. No pictures of the skyline this weekend for me.

I think this is something the City of Chicago needs to address, and soon. Yeah, handicapped people are a minority of the visitors in Chicago but to just lock them out and put them in the same category with everyone else, is wrong.

Welcome Home Marine Corp LCPL Sean Olson! : In case you're on the desk today....

Marine Lance Corporal Sean Olson was amongst the Marines returning from IRAQ today. Their first stop was to meet their families in grand style at the Allstate Arena with nothing less than the anticipation of a world class sports team. With a packed arena, the lights went dim and in walked over 200 Marines to a screaming crowd of family members and friends.

After stopping at the Des Plaines OASIS to meet up with people who would be in the precession home, the first thing he did was go into McDonalds and get a strawberry shake! LCPL Olson then received a police escort back home to Elgin riding with his father who is a Sgt. on the Elgin Police Department with family and friends following. Upon arrival at his home, there was even more friends and family to greet him.

Welcome home Sean.

Kicking off Connie-a-thon 2008 : Larkin High School Dean Christopher Capps volunteered to be the in-duct-tee for Connie-a-thon donations at Larkin this afternoon. Students paid 50 cents per foot of duct-tape to add to the mounting of Mr. Capps to a pillar at the main entrance. These two photos are students installing my donation of 40 feet ($20.00) worth of duct tape. It was for a good cause and students had a lot of fun.

From the Connie-a-thon website:

On Saturday, May 10, 2008, Larkin High School will hold its eleventh annual Connie-A-Thon; a fund-raiser to benefit those with life-threatening illnesses and outstanding medical bills.

This year, we plan to help Craig Hutson, a 1992 Larkin alumni. Craig was recently diagnosed with multiple myeloma. Multiple myeloma is a cancer of the plasma cells that causes lesions on bones. Craig and his wife, Julie, have three young children and are having a hard time making ends meet.

The fun will begin at 10:00 a.m. with food, games, raffles, live music, a live auction, and more. The event will end at approximately 2:00 p.m.

any purchases of any of these photos in this gallery, will have 100% of the proceeds donated back to the Connie-a-thon event!
