Rockford Airfest 2009 Aug-22, 2009 : All in all, a great experience. There was a few snafus that people were complaining about but that was getting into the show and knowing where they're suppose to be. There's a few things I'd do differently next year....but that's for another time. On to the show. ;-)

Everyone gave flawless performances with the exceptions of the B1B and the F-22...the main attractions. The B1B did a couple of flybys but nothing spectactular, and even made a huge error when doing his high-speed pass down the wrong runway center-line which was at the north end of the field, and away from the crowd.

The F-22 was plagued with issues all day, and even though they had 2 of them there.....only one was used even when it was determined early in the morning that it had maintenance issues. It's still a cooler than cool aircraft and lets face it.....sometimes "sh*t happens!". ;-)

Rockford Airport gets 2 thumbs up for it's show. Nowhere can you get this up-close to "show-center".

Rockford Airfest 2009 Practice - Aug. 21, 2009 : Practice was this morning and afternoon out in Rockford and what a show it plans to be! In my opinion, even though they're charging admission, having the ability to get up-close and personal with some of the aircraft is what makes the airshow experience great. Yes....the Blue Angels and Snowbirds put on a hell of a show, but what's in store for tomorrow and Sunday out at Rockford Airfest 2009, will frankly, make them not missed.

The highlights of tomorrow's show look to be the F-22 Raptors as well as the B2B fly-by and the B1B Bombers, one of which will be on static display for the public to check out up close. These guys always make it worth while to come out because when you think of what their capabilties are in an actual war-time situation, you almost truly feel sorry for the bad-guys! (ALMOST! ;-)

Come on out tomorrow or Sunday and check it out. It's going to be worth it at any price if you're a true aviation enthusiast and when you think about all the people and hassles you'll be avoiding by having NOT gone to the Chicago Air and Water Show.....you'll feel even better!

2009 Chicago Air Show Practice : Disappointing to say the least. 5 hours sitting at Navy Pier expecting someone to actually "practice" and all I got was the Lima Lima fight team (twice!) and one single fly-by by the T-38 flight team. The seagulls put on a hell of a show and I even caught the Chicago Fire Department yacht heading out on a call. People all over the pier were disappointed as well.

Schaumburg Aviation Celebration - Sept. 8, 2007 :
Aviation Celebration at Schaumburg Airport today and Sunday. Featuring airplane rides in a Waco Classic biplane from Red Baron Rides, as well as a couple of helicopters that seemed pretty busy!

The BIG attraction of the day however (and that's an understatement!), was the Commemorative Air Force's C-47. Offering rides for $95.00, there surprisingly, weren't a lot of takers. Hopefully tomorrow will be a different story. I want to see this behemoth run down the runway!

There's a lot of aircraft to get up-close and personal with. Strap the helmet on the kids and bring them out. You can't go wrong in infecting them with the "aviation" bug! ;-) It's a lot of fun!
The event was put together by Northwest Flyers, an FBO based at Schaumburg Airport (06C). For more information on the event, click here.
Proceeds from the admission fees will go to Woodfield Area Children's Organization.

Worth every penny of the $8.00 admission. Bring the kids!
